We wanted to do Tonnelbos/Varingkloof circular clockwise, inspecting the Old George Dam along the way, and taking the Tierkop Trail through Tonnelbos... but thunder, hail and rain came out of the blue, causing us to turn around at the dam, and taking a circular detour back home again.

There are many different approach routes; this was just one of them: from Denne-Oord/Fernridge. A similar alternative would be from the Botanical Gardens, going up the zig-zag trail mentioned at 05:22 in the video (or possibly going up the AC/DC downhill track). Another popular way would be from Arbour Rd., up The Link and 60kph downhill tracks. You could also include it in a circular hike to the Swings; the dam is visible from the railway line. ... It's a fairly popular destination.

Easy hike. Good for a swim on a hot day. Picnic and exploration possibilities; it takes no more than 30min to explore all around the dam.
